After 3x17 and the IP I don’t know about everyone else, but I pretty much presumed that they’d have Chuck do something, anything to attempt make it up to her (I mean nothing could be enough of course)  I thought the writers would at least try to redeem him in some form or another. Instead we had Chuck shying away from any form of blame. Manipulating a Dorota wedding so he’d look good and he’d be close to Blair. And sprouting of meaningless words about being ‘magnetic.’ We see and are told just how low this has brought Blair and just how miserable and tired the whole incident and relationship has made her. I mean none of this is out of character for Chuck, it’s not as if he hasn’t been known to display somewhat sociopathic tendencies in the past. But I just find it interesting that in the very same episode we have Dan, who tries to be there for her, quite literally shields her from Chuck, (when he is flirting with the other woman) cracks a small smile out of her and tells her she deserves to be with someone who makes her happy. Given that we know that happens after this. That Dan’s need for her happiness becomes a personal pursuit. That he himself has been shown to be the one that does indeed make her happy. Whereas her and Chuck’s relationship has only sunk deeper into a loop of doom. Light/dark good/bad blah blah. If Chuck is meant to be Blair’s ending why would they have him carry on this way and have Dan doing all the things for her that Chuck should have? I don’t know.

Just given that we know the future pattern of the D/B relationship I find it intriguing and also promising that they chose 3x18 of all the possible episodes to have Dan be there for her rather than than Chuck. Dan fulfilled the emotional support Chuck should have but completely failed to do. Blair had been there for Chuck for the majority of s3 and bar a few of the earlier episodes of the season he never really was. It was always her being his emotional crutch. Chuck her boyfriend, who is meant to be in love with her showed a complete lack of respect and care, anything, for Blair as a human being in 3x17. Quite literally treating her as property. And then we have Dan who’s she had shared a somewhat tempestuous relationship with up to that time, supplying her with the care that Chuck hadn’t. Telling her what she needed to hear. Seeing as we know that writers had somewhat of a plan for dair all along, you can’t help but believe that these moments and the times they were placed were specially designed. And show real significance because the 3x18 directly compares the dair and chair dynamics, just like 5x16 and even at this early stage d/b was portrayed as more positive (and again in 5x16)

I can’t help but think this all means something.
